They are having an event in East Los Angeles this weeked for low-cost spay and free food, It is on the cbs2.com site. I used Golden State several times and they are a wonderful group. I think they charge around $35. Also, a lot of rescue groups get free coupons for spaying, so I'd contact the groups closest to you.

You can get a voucher at Long Beach Animal Care Services 7700 E. Spring Street, Long Beach, CA 90815. go to long beach city homepage online. Bring a utility bill with ur address. They give out vouchers worth $30 every first Thurs of each month. You can use this at golden state off of artesia/atlantic. They charge by the pound but will prob only be $10-15 bucks out of pocket for a big pup. My pups were small so I only paid 5 bucks with the voucher. You must have all their puppy shots prior to neuter/spay.
